As of February 2026, SASSA continues to administer over 19 million grant payments monthly. Grant amounts remain stable since the October 2025 adjustment when most grants increased by R10. The Old Age Grant is now R2,320 per month (R2,340 for those 75+), the Disability Grant is R2,320 per month, the Child Support Grant is R560 per child per month, the Foster Child Grant is R1,250 per month, and the SRD Grant remains at R370 per month until March 2027.
To qualify for the SRD R370 grant (Social Relief of Distress), you must: be aged 18-59 years, have bank income/activity below R624 per month (including any income reflected in your bank account, such as UIF, NSFAS allowances, or financial support), be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee, and not receive a personal social grant (Old Age, Disability, War Veterans). Income includes salaries, pensions, rental income, UIF, and financial support from family. SASSA also assesses assets as part of the means test according to official guidelines.
For the SRD grant, apply online at srd.sassa.gov.za. For all other grants (Old Age, Disability, Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency), visit your nearest SASSA office with: your 13-digit South African ID, proof of residence, 3 months bank statements, proof of income or unemployment, and any grant-specific documents (medical assessment for disability, court order for foster care). SASSA grants are paid monthly. Typical payment order: Older Persons Grants (2nd-3rd), Disability Grants (3rd-4th), Children's Grants (4th-5th). Collect via: direct bank deposit, SASSA card at ATMs, retailers (Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers), or Post Office. The SRD R370 grant has been extended until 31 March 2027.
